Electoral Literacy Club
The Electoral Literacy Club (ELC) of Mahila Mahvidyalaya, Bahraich has been established under the initiative of the Election Commission of India (ECI) as part of the Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) program. The club is a platform to engage young voters in the process of democracy, familiarize them with electoral rights and responsibilities, and strengthen their role as responsible citizens of the nation.
Objectives
The Electoral Literacy Club aims to:

• Create awareness about the electoral process, voting rights, and democratic values among students.

• Encourage and facilitate voter registration for students who attain the age of 18.

• Promote ethical, informed, and inclusive participation in elections.

• Organize interactive and creative activities such as debates, quizzes, poster-making, street plays, and mock polls to spread voter awareness.

• Celebrate National Voters’ Day (25th January) with special events to reaffirm commitment towards free, fair, and participatory elections.
Structure of the Club
To ensure smooth functioning and wide participation, the ELC has the following structure:

• Student Convener/President: Final-year (UG) student with outstanding academic performance
- • Core Committee: Representatives from different courses and streams
- • General Members: All interested students enrolled voluntarily
Activities
The Electoral Literacy Club actively organizes a variety of activities throughout the academic year. Some of the key programs include:

• Awareness Sessions & Orientation: Introductory sessions for new students about the importance of voting and electoral participation.
- • Competitions: Democracy-themed quizzes, debates, essay writing, poster-making, and slogan writing competitions.

• Mock Polls & Demonstrations: Simulation of the voting process and EVM/VVPAT demonstrations in collaboration with the District Election Office.
- • Outreach Programs: Voter awareness drives and campaigns within the campus and in nearby communities.
- • National Voters’ Day (25th January): Oath-taking ceremony, awareness rallies, and recognition of newly registered student voters.
Vision
The vision of the Electoral Literacy Club is to nurture young students as enlightened
voters and ambassadors of democracy. By fostering electoral awareness and participation,
the club contributes to building a stronger, more vibrant democratic society.
